Botox® and Filler Before Holiday Photos: What to Book Now vs. What Can Wait

It usually starts in early October. The family photographer sends over open dates, the office party invite lands in your inbox, and someone in the group chat has already picked out matching pajamas. Before long, your calendar is full of moments worth remembering, and plenty of cameras will be there to catch them.

At Platinum Sculpt, Sarah Hauser, RN, and our team help clients across Lexington, Bowling Green, and Winchester plan treatments around big events every year. The biggest lesson we've learned is that looking refreshed in December has more to do with timing than with doing a lot at once. Some treatments do their best work with a few weeks of lead time, while others are happy to be booked just days before you step in front of the lens.

Wrinkle Relaxers: Flexible With a Little Planning

How Botox Settles

Botox works gradually, and that's part of what makes results look natural. Most clients notice softening within three to five days. Full effect usually appears around the two-week mark.

The Best Window for Botox Before an Event

For Botox before an event, we recommend this timing:

  • Ideal: Two to three weeks before your photos
  • Why it works: Results have time to fully appear, with room for a follow-up if one area needs a small adjustment
  • Cutting it close: Booking the week of an event is possible, but results may still be developing on photo day

Where the Lip Flip Fits

A lip flip uses a small amount of neurotoxin to relax the muscle above the upper lip, allowing it to gently roll outward. It follows the same timeline as Botox, so two to three weeks ahead is ideal. For regular tox clients, our $99/month Botox VIP membership makes it easier to keep results consistent through the busiest season of the year.

Dermal Fillers: Give Them a Little Room to Settle

What the First Two Weeks Look Like

Filler results are visible right away, which surprises many first-time clients. Mild swelling or bruising can appear in the first few days, and both usually fade within one to two weeks. During that time, filler continues to soften and blend with the surrounding tissue.

Timing by Treatment Area

Each area settles a little differently:

  • Cheeks: Swelling tends to be mild, and results often look polished within about two weeks.
  • Jawline and chin: Some tenderness is common at first, so a few weeks of buffer helps.
  • Under-eyes: The skin here is delicate and may show bruising more easily, so extra time is wise.

Dermal Fillers in Lexington and Surrounding Communities

Our Lexington office on Wellington Way welcomes clients from Nicholasville, Georgetown, Versailles, Richmond, and beyond. Holiday schedules fill quickly once November arrives. Winchester clients should plan especially early, since Sarah is on-site there only a few days each month.

Lip Filler Timing: Plan for the Softening Phase

Why Lips Need Extra Time

Lips are highly mobile and rich in blood vessels, so they tend to swell more than other areas. Here's how settling typically looks:

  • Days 1 to 3: Swelling is most noticeable, and lips may feel firm.
  • Days 4 to 7: Swelling eases and shape becomes clearer.
  • Weeks 2 to 4: Lips soften into their final, natural-looking shape.

The Four-Week Sweet Spot

Good lip filler timing means booking about four weeks before your photos. That window gives lips plenty of time to settle. Returning clients doing a small refresh may settle faster, but we still suggest at least two to three weeks.

Lip Flip or Lip Filler for the Holidays?

If you're still deciding, here's a quick way to think about it:

  • Lip flip: A subtle upper-lip curl with no added volume and very little swelling
  • Lip filler: Added volume, shape, and definition, with more swelling up front

Facials and Glow Treatments: The Ones That Can Wait

Why Facials Are Last-Minute Friendly

HydraFacial (Bowling Green) and DiamondGlow® (Lexington) cleanse, exfoliate, and hydrate with little to no downtime. Many clients book them two to five days before an event. Skin often looks fresh and luminous right away, which makes these ideal for the final stretch.

New to Facials? Try One Early

If you've never had a professional facial, schedule a trial session a few weeks ahead. Sensitive skin may show mild pinkness for a few hours. Once you know how your skin responds, you can book another session right before your event with confidence.

Spacing Facials and Injectables

Freshly treated injectable areas do best without extra pressure or massage. Our team sequences appointments so each treatment has room to do its job. Usually, injectables come first and facials come later.

Peels and Lasers: The Ones to Book First

VI Peel: Plan for the Peeling Phase

The VI Peel is a medium-depth peel that can improve tone, texture, and sun damage.

  • Peeling usually begins around day three and lasts several days.
  • Book at least two to three weeks before photos.
  • Fall is a great season for peels, with cooler weather and less time in direct sun.

BioRePeel for Busy Calendars

BioRePeel is a gentler option with minimal downtime. Most clients experience little more than light flaking, if anything. Booking one to two weeks before an event works well for most schedules.

ULTRA Laser and GeniusRF Microneedling

ULTRA laser resurfacing works on all skin types, year-round, with little to no downtime. GeniusRF microneedling uses real-time safety monitoring and builds results gradually as collagen develops. Both often work best as a series, so starting six to eight weeks out is ideal. We typically suggest finishing your final session at least two weeks before photos.

Holiday Treatment Timing FAQs

How far before an event should I get Botox?

We recommend two to three weeks before your event. Botox usually reaches full effect around two weeks, and the extra time allows for a touch-up if needed. Results vary, so we'll personalize your timing at your consultation.

Can I get filler one week before holiday photos?

It's possible, but it leaves little room for swelling or bruising to fade. Three to four weeks is a more comfortable window, especially for first-time clients. Our team can help you decide what makes sense for your schedule.

How long does lip filler swelling last?

Most swelling eases within the first week. Lips continue to soften over two to four weeks before settling into their final shape. Individual experiences vary.

Can I combine Botox and filler in the same appointment?

Many clients do both in one visit, which can be a convenient way to prepare for the holidays. Your injector will recommend the right approach after evaluating your goals.

What's the best last-minute treatment before a holiday party?

HydraFacial in Bowling Green and DiamondGlow® in Lexington are favorites for a quick refresh with no downtime. BioRePeel is another gentle option if you have a week or two.

A Calmer Countdown to Photo Day

A plan made in October means fewer decisions in December. Instead of squeezing appointments into an already packed month, you get to spend that time enjoying the people and moments being photographed. Treatments are meant to support the season, not add pressure to it.

Every face, schedule, and set of goals is a little different. That's why a personalized timeline will always serve you better than a one-size-fits-all chart. Results vary, and our team is happy to walk you through what's realistic for you.
